The
Matzo files announces its opening of Reliquaries on Sunday,
August 21, 3-6pm. The exhibition is in conjunction with the Howl Festival
of East Village Arts and marks the Matzo files second year of participation
in the annual Lower East Side alternative culture event. The Howl Festival
takes place August 21-28 throughout the Lower East Side. Please
visit their website for more information.
To coincide with the Howl Festivals first day of events, the Matzo files is partnering with the City Reliquary for its new Top Drawer exhibition, Reliquaries. The City Reliquarys Dave Herman, Nik Sokol and Billl Scanga have curated for the exhibition fascinatingly beautiful urban relics selected from the Streits Factory and City Reliquary Archives. The City Reliquary is a non-profit civic organization and museum whose aim is to be a historical, cultural and social hub for the people of New York. Reliquaries will be on view through October 2. To read more about the City Reliquary, visit their website and read a recent article about them in the New York Times. The City Reliquary will also be hosting a reception on Friday, August 19 at 7:30pm in its Williamsburg, Brooklyn location featuring a selection from a vast bobble-head collection! Also in conjunction with the Howl! Festival, the Artists Alliance Rotating Studio Program (RSP) will be having Open Studios on Thursday, August 25 from 6-8pm. The Artists Alliance building is located across the street from the Matzo files at 107 Suffolk Street. In addition, the Cuchifritos Gallery, another program of the Artists Alliance, will be having a group show of recent RSP recipients with the opening reception on Friday, August 26 from 4-6pm. Cuchifritos is located in the Essex Street Market, just south of Rivington Street on Essex. There are several Matzo files artists who are either current or recent RSP recipients and will be involved in both of these great events. We hope you can come to some or all of these great, end-of-the-summer events! |
