CUCHIFRITOS
Submission Policy and Exhibition Guidelines

Cuchifritos operates by inviting independent curators to submit proposals. In addition anyone wishing to submit a proposal may do so by using the following submission policy and guidelines.

Each Spring a curatorial advisory committee composed of curators and arts professionals from diverse backgrounds chooses exhibits from the submissions.

CUCHIFRITOS accepts proposals from independent curators for contemporary art exhibits.

Please note that you do not have to be a professionally trained curator to submit a proposal, as submissions will be judged on merit, however past track record of effective presentation of exhibits will be weighed as an important factor in the decision process.

Cuchifritos seeks exhibits featuring the work of emerging or under represented artists, and exhibits involving a clear conceptual theme structured to put the work in context.

We are particularly interested in exhibits which might relate in some way to the Essex Market or the Lower East Side.

CUCHIFRITOS mission is to connect contemporary art and local community. We do not promote community based art, but rather cutting edge contemporary work in all media, shown within a local community setting. We seek to serve emerging and underrepresented contemporary artists and the curators who seek to exhibit these artist's work.

We are typically booked 12 to 18 months in advance, but there is often some play in the schedule.

Important Note: Cuchifritos accepts submissions by email only.

Please send a one page proposal via email outlining the nature of the exhibit. This should be conceptual or thematic and need not include a definitive list of artists. It should however include at the very least, a list of examples of the type of artists intended.

If the artists are known, a short one paragraph bio, AND a short resume of each artist should be included.

Please also include a short one paragraph bio AND CV of yourself, the curator.

Between one and three images of each artist should also be included, however, please do not send more than 10 images in total.

Images should be sent as separate jpeg or png files rather than embedded in word or pdf documents.

images should be large enough/high enough resolution to project or print. As a rough guideline, we recommend the images be at least 1000 pixels or more on the shortest dimension, but no more than 2000 pixels in the longest dimension. Save jpegs as high quality or better.

Viewing of images is an important part of the review process, and we strongly encourage the sending of images. If however, no images are available, the proposal can still be judged by the written materials submitted.

We recommend sending the images in one or a number of separate emails because of the size of image we are requesting. Depending on the number of artists proposed, you may also wish to send the written document attachments via multiple emails, with three to five attachments per email.

The inquiry should be addressed to the Curatorial Advisory Committee and must be sent via email to:

cuchifritos@aai-nyc.org

Please also note, though we are open to many types of proposals, curators who also make art may not include their own work in an exhibit.

Duration of exhibis is typically 4 to 6 weeks.

Gallery Hours: Monday to Saturday, Noon to 5:30pm (Exhibition Hours Open to Public) Closed Holidays.

Thank you so much for your interest in Cuchifritos.
