Bio:
Working in the theoretical realm of John Cage and Carl Andrea, Mark
Power reintegrates art-historical references and mechanical production
in the creation of his post-minimalist sculptures. Operating within
strict limitations of time, place and function, Power uses random
mundane activities, like sweeping, wrapping and tying, as points of
departure for the realization of arcane white objects - at once clinical
and idiosyncratic - which remain as surrogates for the actions that
generated them
Recent sculpture is part of an ongoing series of work titled " Something
Pretty from the Gates of the Hoglands"
"Something Pretty from the Gates of the Hoglands" is a rumination
on Clement Greenberg's discourse on beauty, Rodin's "Gates of Hell,"
and the sculpture of Henry Moore. Mark Power transforms a 20th century
camping tent into an object of uniqueness and beauty reminiscent of
the classicism of 18th century Dutch painting
