You are
here 3. 2005. Oil on canvas. 36" x 48"
Statement:
The three
basic symbols of a house, a path, and a tree are the inspiration
for my "To Your House..." and "You Are Here"
series of painting, drawings, and installations. Through repetition
of these images and the exploration of mark making and materials
lively and curious environments are created. The jumbled landscapes
are often humming with a chaotic harmony, much like the world
we live in. These archetypal images conjure up notions of a journey,
life-path, enlightenment, stability, upheaval, and longing, reflecting
some of our innermost fears and desires.
I am also
interested in extracting from the notion of drawing and collage
and applying it to painting, thus narrowing the gap between them.
In the installations I am interested in taking the viewer inside
the 2-d work, allowing them to move through a space that has been
activated by the materials and imagery.
