BOARD AND STAFF

Board 2009:

Tine Kindermann, Co-Chair. Tine joined the AAI Board in 2003 and was elected Chair that same year. Tine is a visual artist with a background in set design and set painting. Tine is also a professional mediator, working with other organizations including Volunteer Lawyers for the Arts and Safe Horizon. 

Steve Mumford, Co-Chair. Steve Mumford has joined the board in 2009. Steve received his MFA in Fine Arts at the School of Visual Arts, NY. Steve is represented by Postmasters Gallery, New York and his acclaimed series from his travels during the war in Irag has been widely shown throughout the US and abroad. His artwork has been extensively and recently reviewed by Art in America, Time Out NY, New York Times and New York Magazine. We welcome Steve Mumford as one of our newest board members.

Teri Chan, Teri joined the AAI Board in 2005. Teri is an arts manager and has worked

with numerous not-for-profits arts organizations including Asian American Arts Center and the Lower Manhattan Cultural Council. Teri recently completed a Masters Program in Arts Administration at Teachers College, Columbia University. She is currently the Director of Operations for the Nederlander Worldwide Entertainment Company to bring Broadway shows to China.

Bill Massey, Secretary. Bill joined the AAI Board in 2006. Bill attended the Lawrenceville School and graduated from New York University in 1985. Bill is a visual artist, primarily a painter, but is also a freelance artist’s consultant, and photographer. He has served as a visiting Instructor, at Rutgers University, Camden Campus.

Zeina Assaf joined the board in 2009, originally from Jacksonville FL she attended Boston University and received her BA in Art History in 2002 while interning at the MIT List Visual Arts Center and the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston. Assaf received her Certificate in Arts Administration in 2004 from NYU while interning at Art in General. She moved to the LES in 2003 and began volunteering for Cuchifritos as intern coordinator (2004) becoming Programs Associate (2005). Currently she works as a gallery manager at NY Studio Gallery, a contemporary gallery in the LES (since 2007), and volunteers as the Intern Coordinator for Cuchifritos and assists with programming at AAI. Zeina is also a freelance curator and has been on the working board of artHarlem since 2005. We welcome Zeina Assaf as one of our newest board members.

Paul Clay. Paul is a founding member of AAI and has served as a Board Member since 2000.  Paul is an award-winning artist, curator, set designer and serves as Program Director for AAI. Paul’s artistic perspective comes from an early interest in anthropology and social change. Recent projects include "Dumbo Comic" 2006 d.u.m.b.o. art center (dac) 10th annual art under the bridge festival.            

Rebecca Guber. Rebecca was elected to the AAI Board in 2005. Rebecca is currently Program Director for the Six Points Fellowship for Emerging Jewish Artists, a program that supports artists to developing new projects with a Jewish focus, theme or element. Rebecca previously worked for Hazon, an innovative Jewish environmental organization that supports peace building and environmental work in the United States and the Middle East.

Mark Power. 

Mr. Power received his MFA from the School of Visual Arts in 1993 and is one of the founding members of AAI, having served as board member several times, since its inception in 1999. Awards: Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture; Edward Albee Foundation and Johnson Foundation. Mark is a visual artist and instructor, currently teaching sculpture to adults at the Educational Alliance.

Rick Streicker. Rick joined the AAI Board in 2007. Following a 20-year career as Senior Vice President of Legal & Business Affairs for Warner Bros. Music, Rick, a 1978 graduate of Harvard law School (cum laude), graduated with honors from the Columbia Graduate School of Journalism in 2004.  Simultaneously, Rick attended the Columbia Business School and received his MBA in 2006. 

Sherman J. Sussman, Treasurer. AKA "Shy" who was previously on the board in 2006 has now rejoined the board in 2009. Sherman Sussman is a visual artist working in a variety of media, both two and three dimensional formats. At the age of 40 he left his chosen feild of the graphic arts, taking a 16 month sabatical to live and study in Japan. There, he traveled and re-discovered his first love, painting & sculpture. His works have been collected in the USA and Japan. He received a BFA in Film Arts, School of Visual Arts 1976.
