PAST EXHIBITION: Made & Unmade Artist: Manuel Acevedo Curated by Omar Lopez-Chahoud Exhibition Dates: March 12 – April 30, 2011 For more information and/or images, please contact Artists Alliance at aai@aai-nyc.org Cuchifritos is proud to present Made and Unmade, a solo exhibition that presents the conceptual strategies and stylistic tendencies of visual artist, Manuel Acevedo through three bodies of work: the Alpha-Bits series, Glory wall drawing, Renau’s Room and Soldier’s Playground. The selection of work deploys covert and overt military language through encoded forms in hybrid typography, animation stills, and small labyrinth structures. Inspired by the late Spanish political artist Josef Renau, Oxford’s Military Dictionary of Terms, and early 1980’s era graffiti ciphers, the artist examines how histories can be made and unmade, presented as facts or fiction, and sanctioned by those who invent them in oral, written, and visual forms.
