East Side Long Term Studio Program L.E.S. Long Term Studio Program: Affordable working space for professional working artists, with a special focus on providing space for artists who come from Downtown and the local community. The Lower East Side has historically been a meeting ground for a great diversity of cultures and traditions. It has also been known for the vitality of its artistic and communal life. This cultural heritage is reflected in the artists in residence at Artists Alliance Inc.'s 107 Suffolk Street studio program. Hailing from many nations and working with a host of different materials and sensibilities, they come together forming a single community, and enriching the cultural life of the neighborhood and of the city. According to the New York Foundation for the Arts in their seminal report "Culture Counts, Strategies for a More Vibrant Cultural Life for New York City". "A space crisis exists...the resultant scarcity of space for production and presentation" threatens the very core of cultural life in this city, and will have a huge detrimental economic impact on the city far into the future if it is not addressed and rectified. AAI maintains one of the largest long term art studio programs in the City of New York, based at 107 Suffolk Street, which focuses especially on providing space to local artists from Lower Manhattan and the Lower East Side.
